Last things last! We are reaching the end point of this year’s guitarfish tagging season. Last Tuesday four neonates were captured, from which blood samples were taken.
As far as we are aware, this is the first time in which blood samples have been taken from guitarfish in the wild (if you are aware of any projects, please send them our way!). In addition to blood, we took standard measurements, and the animals were released back into the wild. Blood tests will provide initial insight to the biochemical values of this organism, and establish a baseline for this region. There has been a noticeable decrease in their presence, suggesting the maturation of these cohort and possibly, movement away from the supposed nursery grounds.
