Interactive Marine Data Portal – Eastern Mediterranean

The Morris Kahn Marine Research Station interactive map serves as a centralized spatial hub for marine ecological data, environmental layers, and oceanographic conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Designed for researchers, conservationists, policy-makers, and the public, this platform combines real-time data feeds, satellite remote sensing, and long-term monitoring layers to support ecosystem-based management and scientific discovery.

Key Features & Data Layers:

  • Marine Megafauna & Biodiversity: Track sightings, clusters, and heatmaps for sharks, guitarfish, and marine stranding events.

  • Oceanography & Remote Sensing: Real-time and high-resolution sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll-a concentration, salinity, and bathymetry (GEBCO / EMODnet).

  • Marine Spatial Planning & Protection: Integrated boundaries for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), no-trawling zones, seabed habitats, and human infrastructure (pipelines, gas fields, and disposal sites).

  • Real-Time Weather & Marine Conditions: Live wave forecasts, wind, ocean currents, and weather radar powered by Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) and global meteorological models.

  • Interactive Analysis Tools: Custom GIS drawing tools, coordinate extraction, custom markers, and shape exports for field planning and research.
