Just another National Geographic grant!
Exciting news! 
Dr. Aviad Scheinin and Dr. Leigh Livne are project team members *again* for another National Geographic grant, the Meridian grant, titled: “Integrating Research, Storytelling, and Education for Addressing Ecological and Human Dimensions of Shark Conservation.” They will conduct this work alongside PI Dr Carlo Cattano from Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Dr Andrej A. Gajic from Sharklab ADRIA, and Sinawi Medine, Documentary Photographer; all 3 are also National Geographic Explorers. This incredible recognition propels the Apex Marine Predators Laboratory – this funding goes toward satellite tagging of our sandbar sharks and hosting our project team partners here in Israel. Aviad and Leigh will also travel to Albania and Italy for expeditions over the next 2 years. Our collaboration with National Geographic amplifies our impact on Israeli shores to provide the information to conserve our dwindling shark populations in the Mediterranean. 
This project isn’t just about discovery; it’s a collective commitment to conservation and education. “Integrating Research, Storytelling, and Education for Addressing Ecological and Human Dimensions of Shark Conservation” aims to bridge scientific understanding with public engagement. Our findings will significantly contribute to ongoing scientific dialogues and aid in formulating informed strategies to protect these magnificent creatures and their habitats.
