Live Wave Buoy!

Here comes another wave – and it’s a big one!
Planning on going surfing this weekend?

For months now, our smart research buoy has been diligently performing its task in the heart of the sea – it collects, analyzes, and transmits continuous data to us in real-time about the sea conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Among other things, the buoy also measures… waves.

But what exactly is a wave, and why do we need to measure it?
You might be surprised, but waves affect our lives far more than you’d think – they shape coastlines, impact maritime and recreational safety, help warn of tsunamis, and serve as a source of renewable energy.

What do we measure?
Wave height, its period, direction, wind intensity, barometric pressure, salinity, water and air temperature, and more. All of these help our researchers understand the sea’s dynamics and provide critical data for research, protection of the coastal environment, and of course, for public use.

So, want to know when the next wave is coming?
In the coming days, we’ll be publishing a series of posts here that will reveal—in simple and clear language—the meaning behind the data our buoy uncovers.

Follow us and be the first to know how the sea really behaves.
