In loving memory – Morris Kahn
Morris Kahn

We mourn the passing of our benefactor, Morris Kahn, whose vision and generosity laid the foundation for everything we do. His initial funding made possible our building, our core scientific activities, and the establishment of an open-access database which spans the marine ecosystem of the eastern Levant Basin. Through his unwavering commitment to science, openness, and long-term stewardship of the marine environment, Morris Kahn enabled knowledge to be shared freely for the benefit of researchers, decision-makers, and society at large. His legacy will endure in every dataset, discovery, and collaboration that continues to advance marine science and conservation.

Marine biogeochemistry

Marine biogeochemistry graphic presentation Marine biogeochemistry dataThe aim of our team in the marine biogeochemistry lab in MKMRS is to take and analyze measurements of the ultra-low levels of dissolved nutrients (nitrate, phosphate, ammonia and silicate) found in the waters off the Israeli coast. We study nutrient cycling in both the shallow and deeper waters. Analysis of flow cytometry (FCM) of cells is carried out by Dikla Aharonovich at the…

Live Wave Buoy!

Here comes another wave – and it's a big one!Planning on going surfing this weekend? For months now, our smart research buoy has been diligently performing its task in the heart of the sea – it collects, analyzes, and transmits continuous data to us in real-time about the sea conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Among other things, the buoy also measures... waves. But what exactly is a wave, and why do we…

Dolphins acoustic research

About the ResearchResearch project on dolphin whistles along the Israeli coastline, conducted at the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station. The project aims to advance our understanding of the acoustic behavior, communication, and ecology of local dolphin populations through detailed analysis of their vocalizations. Ultimately, the research seeks to develop an acoustic tool for distinguishing between species and to create a whistle catalogue that could enable the identification of individual dolphins…
