    Academic Education:

    • BSc – Marine Science and Environment, Ruppin Academic Center (Michmoret), Israel (2010-2013)
    • MSc – Marine Biology, University of Haifa, Israel (2017-Present)

Barak has been involved with aquatic sports, such as diving and surfing, for many years.  At only 8 years old, he dove for the first time, and has been a commercial diver for the past 3 years.  He has worked in the fish farm industry, dealing with marine aquaculture supervision of fish health (parasites and disease).  Barak started his BSc in marine biology due to his love for the ocean and hopes that by contributing to understanding of the marine ecosystem it can help in its conservation.

    Current Research:

Barak is currently researching nursery grounds for guitarfish along the Israeli coastline. Guitarfish are considered an endangered species, and biological data for them is lacking.  His work with the guitarfish is that of capture and release, with data gathered including morphometric measurements, tagging, blood samples, DNA analysis, as well as habitat description.  Since this species is a top predator, guitarfish can be used as a bioindicator of a healthy marine system in the nearshore and sandy ecosystems.  Additionally, defining areas as nursery grounds of this species can assist in their long-term conservation along the Israeli coastline.
