    Academic Education:

    • MSc – Marine Biology, University of Haifa, Israel (2016-Present)

    Background:

Ran comes from an aquaculture background and is interested in all research related to fish.  For many years he worked in a family fish feed business as a marketing, nutrition, and R&D manager.  Through his research he is able to expand his knowledge and experience in using leading molecular tools and techniques.

    Current Research:

Molecular detection and characterization of nervous necrosis virus (NNV) in wild marine fish from the Levantine Basin of the Eastern Mediterranean.
This research is a part of our Mediterranean pathogens monitoring program. The aim of this program is to establish a scientific baseline of the marine pathogens in the Levantine basin. My focus is on Nervous necrosis virus (NNV), an RNA virus belonging to family Nodaviridea. It is the causative agent of viral nervous necrosis disease (VNND) - a disease that affects marine fish worldwide, causing the highest ecological and socio-economic impacts in the Mediterranean and European farmed finfish.
